This is a left hand drive Bedford CF250 Campervan. The van was built in 1977 and has a 2.3L Opel Diesel engine.
This engine was fitted in 2006 and has run 21,000km since fit.
The MOT is due to expire on 13th May 2010 and the vehicle tax will expire on 31st Oct 2009. The last MOT passed with no major problems at all. Quite a feat for a van of this age. The van is registered with DVLNI.
This is an old van, and if treated as such, will cause you no major problems. It has been used all around africa, india and all over europe. The chassis is still rock solid and would probably last another 32 years! This is perfect for a no-rush holiday. WIll comfortably sit at 50mph on the flat, a little more if you go downhill.
This van was originally bought so we could see if we liked the idea, and we loved it. Go where you want and not have to worry about the expense of accomodation or eating out. We were going to rent one for a couple of weeks, but at £100 per day and £600 deposit, we took the plunge, paid the extra and had one to keep! This one is being sold because of a change in jobs, so we'll not get the oppertunity to get the use from this van.
The top bunk is comfortable enough if a little challenging to get to. I have the bits put aside for a bunk ladder and will hopefully have it made before sale. The lower bunk is constructed using the table I made. All goes together in a matter of minutes. The sink operates with a small footpump inside the cupboard underneath. It drains overboard and is the tank, also inside the cupboard, is filled from the outside. There is a butane gas oven fitted, along with a grill and two ring burner.
There are five overhead storage lockers, one tall larder cupboard, one drop-flap cupboard, an under-sink cupboard,
two drawers under the cooker and two storage areas under the rear seats (one full of battery and pc though).
What's been done.
There are two new tyres fitted to the front, which have done about 200 miles since fit.
There is a new starter soleniod fitted after the last one corroded through.
Exhaust pipe has been re-routed ou of the LH rear corner. This stops the back sooting up as has happened with the pipe going straight back as it was before.
All the curtains and covers have been cleaned.
Three seat belts fitted to each side at the rear,
The internals of the van have been painted and the carpet replaced.
The sink and cooker covers have been re-made into two pieces, so you can have some work top while cooking, or the other way round if using the sink.
Gas bottle re-routed into the external battery bay (easier than the toilet room!)
Two bars have been fitted to the roof to allow a roof box to be fitted, along with non-slip patched to walk around.
A removable ladder has been fitted to the rear to allow access to the roof.
I made a table for it, which also doubles as the base for the lower bed.
A leisure battery has been fitted along with a charging circuit and a 1000w inverter.
The connections and lead are there to hook up to a caravan site power point.
All the internal lights work from the leisure battery.
I fitted a small footprint PC running WIndows XP, along with a drop-down LCD screen and stereo speakers. This can be run from the inverter or from mains power. Get a Wi-Fi dongle and have internet wherever you stop!
Now the known faults.
Bodywork needs a little tidying up. Not a major problem and may be a nice project for someone over these colder months.
The fuel shut-off solenoid is not working. This has been by-passed so the van will run as normal, but just not switch off when you turn off the key. Just stall it and it's all as normal. I have a new one for it, just haven't got around to fitting it yet.
For this kind of money you are getting an excellent start into the motorhome world. This is what we did, liked and will be doing again as soon as we are able.
The awning pictured (NOT included with the sale) cost £400 when we bought it two trips ago. It has more storage area and an extra bedroom. It attached to the rear of the van, can be put up by one person in about 10 mins and is a drive-away type. If you would like to purchase this with the van then I will accept £200 for it,.
